The Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students (Lantite test) is used so the student’s literacy and numeracy skills can be accessed for initial teacher education.

There are two computer-based test components
Literacy - 65 literacy questions
Numeracy - 65 questions (consists of 2 sections)
Section 1 : 52 questions for which an online calculator is available
Section 2: 13 questions for which the online calculator is not available
All the questions are in either selected responses (for example, multiple-choice) or short answer formats. No extended writing is required. There is no negative marking with means no marks will be deducted for incorrect answers.
The duration of each test component is 2 hours (A short tutorial is there in the beginning of each test component).
For Literacy - 65 questions need to be solved within 120 minutes.
For Numeracy- 65 questions. The numeracy component has two sections and it is important not to rush section 1 because you will not be able to return to section 1 once you commence section 2. The total available time is 120 minutes.
Literacy In the literacy test, about two-thirds of the questions are based on reading texts, and one-third assess technical skills of writing.
The reading test is structured around three processes:
access and identify
integrate and interpret
evaluate and reflect.
A number of text types are used as stimulus for the reading questions:
procedural, regulatory and technical
descriptive, informative and persuasive
The content of the technical skills of writing assessment comprises four areas:
syntax and grammar
Numeracy In the numeracy test, there will be questions on three content areas:
number and algebra
statistics and probability
measurement and geometry.
